Indonesia to Allow Quarantine-Free Arrivals in Bali As Part of Trial

A senior minister announced on Sunday that the government will begin removing the quarantine requirement for foreign travelers arriving in Bali on March 14 as part of a trial meant to encourage visitors to Indonesia’s most popular tourist destination.

Currently, anyone entering from outside Indonesia must undergo a five-day quarantine period. Starting on Tuesday, only individuals who have previously received their booster vaccine dosage will be subjected to a three-day quarantine. Nonetheless, it intends to loosen travel restrictions even more.

After meeting with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and several cabinet members, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said, “The government will conduct a no-quarantine trial for foreign travelers who come to Bali, which will take effect on March 14 under our current plan.”

If the number of Covid-19 instances in Bali drops more quickly, Luhut, who is also the coordinator for executing Java-community-level Bali’s restrictions (PPKM), said the government might implement the plan one week earlier.

“If the data shows a faster improvement, we can speed it up. In the previous few weeks, we’ve seen Bali’s number continuing to rise “Luhut stated his opinion.

According to Ministry of Health data, the island province reported roughly 587 cases per day in the past week, down 54 percent from 1.284 instances per day a week earlier.

Bali was one of 17 Indonesian provinces that had a decrease in new Covid-19 cases over the previous week, indicating that the authorities believe Indonesia has passed the top of the Omicron-induced wave.
